Maserati Delivery from Hawaii to Phillipines

This July, Gwen Riou will fly the flag of “Team Terrillon Avocats” at the start of the Tour de France à la Voile 2016, a team supported by Mr Patrick Terrillon, a great sailing buff.
The 38-year old Breton skipper, with a background sailing prestigious monohull and multihull on an international scale (Volvo Open 70, Maxi, Imoca 60 and Multi50 among others), is returning to the 39th edition of the Tour de France à la Voile, a legendary race organised by ASO, with a crew made up of seasoned athletes and supported by Patrick Terrillon in the role of partner.

A versatile, experienced sailor
Gwen has already participated in the Tour de France à la Voile, albeit in its original format. Indeed, back in 2000, he secured a win in its student category with his brother Morgan, he too a familiar face on the pontoons of the French races, as is their sister Marie, who is preparing for the Olympic Games in Rio on the Nacra 17.
Indeed, sailing is a family affair for the Riou clan…
I first got into the sport in Brest thanks to my father, following in the footsteps of my older brother Morgan. Mine is a very classic background. I started out with the Optimist and then moved up to the 420. In 1996 we secured the French Champion title and third place in the World Championship. Following that, my brother and I completed an Olympic preparation on the 470”.
In 2001, the native of Finistère won the prestigious Challenge Crédit Agricole, which paved the way to offshore racing.
As a result, he participated in both the Solitaire du Figaro and the Transat AG2R. He also sailed on an Imoca 60 alongside Bernard Stamm and Bertrand de Broc, on “Med Spirit” (a 92-foot Maxi), on Maserati (the Volvo Open 70 skippered by Italian Giovanni Soldini) and on SFS (Lionel Péan’s Volvo Open 70).

The meeting with Patrick Terrillon
A raft of experiences ensued and with them a series of encounters, one of which took place at the RORC Caribbean 600 in 2013, where Gwen befriended Patrick Terrillon, a big sailing enthusiast, who heads a practice specialised in corporate and business law, whose development has an international slant (Poland, Germany, Spain and the United States among others).

The Parisian lawyer has sailed on every type of craft: monohulls, small and big boats in the transatlantic… Though he intends to take on the role of partner in the Tour de France à la Voile alongside the team led by Gwen Riou, his ambitions go beyond the marine world. Indeed, Patrick is a member of the Supervisory Board for Paris-Levallois Basketball Pro A team and is also the co-producer of “Race”, a really iconic film on the sport, which is released in the USA on 19 February 2016.

I’ve chosen Gwen for his technical skills and his personality at sea and on land,” says Patrick. “I’ve seen him sailing several times in some very different conditions: he’s an excellent helmsman, full of finesse! Furthermore, he knows how to do everything on a boat: both on shore and at sea. He’s very talented… and very friendly to boot”.

The Team…
With regards to the composition of the team, Gwen has made his choice and the team is already in the process of preparing races with a view to competing in the Tour de France.
“I’ve formed the crew with my partner on the project, who is someone I got to know during my Maxi sailing. He’s a connoisseur of the Formula 18. Aboard our boat, we have a very good tactician who’s a match racing specialist and a very good crew specialising in Formula 18”, explains Gwen, though he’s giving nothing away with regards to naming names…
